Radiation Shielding Screen

   Radiation Shielding Screen of description

     X-Ray Screens

Envirotect x-ray screens are manufactured to suit the client’s design and meet with the shielding requirements of the RPA (Radiation Protection Advisor).

X-ray screens are finished in a wipe clean plastic laminate ranging from standard white to a choice of vibrant colours.

Shielding is achieved via a lead core to the panels and lead glass windows for a clear and panoramic view of procedures.

  Screen Protection

The RPA (Radiation Protection Advisor) is responsible for advising the lead content for radiation shielding. The RPA will normally prepare a report outlining the shielding requirements for each element of          aroom such as the walls, doors windows, operator screens etc.

The majority of doors will incorporate 2mm (code 5) lead but this may vary depending on the machine output, proximity and patient through-put. For example, doors for dental and veterinary use could           be as low as 1mm lead (code 3) whilst a door for a CT Scanner could be to 2.65mm lead (code 6).

Although it’s common practice for the RPA to advise the lead content in increments of half millimetres, the lead used will be standard ‘coded’ lead. (See table)

  Requirement Coded Lead Used

  1.0mmCode 3 (1.32mm)

  1.5mmCode 4 (1.80mm)

  2.0mmCode 5 (2.24mm)

  2.5mmCode 6 (2.65mm)

  3.0mmCode 7 (3.15mm)

The lead is pressure laminated within the construction of the product and is not accessible to end users, patients or public.

  Lead Glass and Screens

Although most screens follow a standard format, here are a few tips to follow:

  1. Leave a solid panel against the wall. This will enable trunking and services to run down the wall and will also help with installation.

  2. Use 800mm high glass in order to save cost.
